Idaho Steelheads squander leads in loss

STATESMAN STAFFNovember 14, 2013

Idaho appeared to have control of the game, but the Ontario Reign rallied from behind two times to earn a 6-5 overtime win Wednesday night at CenturyLink Arena.

Idaho led 3-0 after first-period goals by Tommy Grant, Anthony Nigro and Justin Mercier.

But the Reign battled back in the second period with three goals of their own to knot the score at 3-3.

The see-saw scoring continued as Ryan Button and Mitch Wahl scored for Idaho to put the Steelheads up 5-3 in the third period.

Ontario silenced the crowd, however, by tying the game at 5-5 with 10 seconds remaining in regulation and then getting the game-winner from Zach O’Brien 20 seconds into the extra period.
