Interstate lanes to close Wednesday for slab repair

November 12, 2013

Road repair will close two eastbound lanes on I-84 Wednesday, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.

The lane closure will affect a two-mile stretch between the Meridian and Eagle interchanges. Crews are working to repair four broken concrete slabs, ranging in size from four feet square to teen feet square.

The lanes will be blocked by cones between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday, outside of the heaviest commuting times.

Repairs to the broken slabs are necessary before colder winter weather sets in, ITD officials said. If the concrete is not stabilized, low temperatures can cause it to fracture, leaving holes up to a foot deep in the road.
