STATESMAN STAFFNovember 9, 2013

COEUR D'ALENE 52, TIMBERLINE 9

Coeur d’Alene protected its home field with a victory over Timberline. The Vikings came into the game with a 6-3 record, but showed that they will be a force in the state playoffs. Coeur d’Alene will face Capital in the next round. Coeur d’Alene QB Gunnar Amos was taken off the field in an ambulance with a suspected broken leg.

HIGHLAND 37, MOUNTAIN VIEW 17

Mountain View’s four-game winning streak came to an end in the 5A state quarterfinals at the hands of Highland, the only remaining undefeated team left in the classification.

SKYVIEW 34, LAKELAND 23

The Hawks’ high-scoring offense didn’t match its 44.3 points-per-game average, but did enough to get by Lakeland. The Hawks advance to play Jerome in the semifinals. Running back Jaxon Pryor scored three rushing TDs on runs of 37, 51 and 2 yards, and piled up 200 yards on the ground for Skyview.

FIRTH 46, COLE VALLEY 20

Cole Valley suffered its first loss of the season in the quarterfinals of the 2A state playoffs. Firth’s powerful ground attack, led by Connor Montgomery’s four rushing touchdowns, was too much for Cole Valley to handle. Chase Renfrow caught two touchdown passes from Mason Vanderhoff, who completed 18-of-35 passes for 239 yards. Tallen Eveland led Cole Valley with five catches for 131 yards and a TD.

COUNCIL 38, DEARY 28

Council made its way into the state semifinals with the help of quarterback Mick Wilson, who passed for three touchdowns and ran for another in a victory over Deary. The Lumberjacks will host unbeaten Lighthouse Christian next week.
