Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State’s Bates wins league title in cross country

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — Emma Bates earned the school’s first conference championship in six years when she claimed the 6-kilometer title with a time of 20:48.15 at the Mountain West championships. Bates was named the MW women’s athlete of the year after leading Boise State to a second-place finish (60 points). On the men’s side, Boise State finished fourth (101). Aaron Back led the Broncos with a 12th-place finish. New Mexico swept the team titles for the fifth season in a row.

BSU SOCCER: The Broncos played Utah State to a 1-1 double overtime draw in Logan, Utah, on Friday. Redshirt freshman Kayla Tucker scored Boise State’s goal in the regular season finale. The Broncos (11-6-3, 6-3-1 Mountain West) will play in the conference tournament that begins Monday. They have locked up at least the fourth seed.

COLLEGE OF IDAHO VOLLEYBALL: Coach Liz Mendiola won her 300th career match as the Coyotes (13-9, 13-2 Cascade Conference) swept Oregon Tech 25-17, 25-18, 25-14 in Klamath Falls, Ore.

C OF I MEN’S BASKETBALL: The Coyotes (1-2) defeated Walla Walla 115-67 in the Eastern Oregon Quinn Classic in La Grande, Ore.

COLLEGE OF IDAHO MEN’S SOCCER: The Coyotes (4-12, 4-8 CCC) lost 2-0 to Corban in Salem, Ore.
