— A Boise woman died early Friday morning when the car she was riding in struck a power pole on State Street near Glenwood Street.

Idaho State Police say 25-year-old Andrew Ryan Cassell of Eagle was headed west when he swerved off the road and hit the pole on the right shoulder at about 2:45 a.m. His passenger, 21-year-old Aldina Ekic, died at the scene.

Cassell has been arrested and charged with felony manslaughter. Alcohol was a factor in the deadly wreck, police said, and the crash remains under investigation. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court Monday.

Ekic was not wearing a seatbelt, police say. The Ada County Coroner's Officer ruled that she died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Cassell was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. It is unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt.

Idaho 44 was blocked in both directions for an hour and a half.
