MARSING — An Owyhee County man pleaded guilty last week to killing his wife by crushing her beneath a car.
Rodney Wayne Bibbey, 38, originally told police that his wife had been changing the car's oil when the jack slipped and the Mercury Grand Marquis fell on her. Investigators who found her pinned beneath the car initially said the death appeared to be accidental.
But after an investigation, authorities said 35-year-old Trina Bibbeys death was a homicide.
Bibbey was charged with murder in the womans April 2012 death. On Oct. 21, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder as part of a deal with prosecutors.
Prosecutor Doug Emery said that Bibbey could still face up to life in prison at his Dec. 23 sentencing.
By statute, hed have to serve at least 10 years in the state penitentiary, he said.
Emery said he still needed to review all of the pre-sentencing information before he would know what he will recommend to Judge Molly Huskey at the sentencing.
Bibbey also reached a plea deal in a separate case regarding a charge of sexual abuse of a child under 16, dropping it to injury to a child. That case stemmed from a February 2013 incident in which Bibbey bought a vibrator for a 12-year-old girl, offered to show her how to use it and pressed it against her leg, Emery said.
Bibbey faces one to 10 years in prison in that case. That sentencing is also set for Dec. 23.
