Idaho State Police are investigating how a semi-trailer plowed into a Caldwell business Monday afternoon.

The crash did extensive damage to Caldwell Automotive at 50 E. Frontage Road, and damaged two vehicles parked at the business. Although a mechanic was working in the garage, he was not hurt. The semi's driver, Narciso Ferreira, 58, of Nampa also escaped injury.

Here's what police said happened:

• At bout 4:15 p.m., Ferreira was eastbound on the onramp for Interstate 84 when he lost control, fishtailed and went off the shoulder on the right side.

• The semi went through a grassy area, through a chain link fence, and struck the building and came to a rest inside.

The onramp was blocked for about an hour.
