CALDWELL — Oscar Padilla’s hat trick led a quartet of goal-scoring Wolverines in an 8-3 win Thursday over Wendell to advance to the semifinals of the 3A boys state soccer tournament.

In addition to Padilla’s scores, Tony Lopez and Juan Martinez had a pair of goals apiece, while junior Kade Dale scored the other on his birthday.

“You just never know who is going to show up, and they all stepped up,” Weiser coach Kathy Bokides said.

Martinez, Jose Perez, David Calderon and Jr. Morales had an assist each for Weiser (14-2-1), which will take on American Falls in Friday’s semifinals. The other semifinal features Sugar-Salem and Gooding.

MCCALL-DONNELLY 4, TETON 0

The McCall-Donnelly defense blanked Teton in their 3A girls state soccer tournament opener.

In addition to the stout defensive effort, the Vandals’ Taylor Howard notched two goals, while Brooke Thomas had a goal and two assists. Kylie Hoogendyk got the Vandals on the board with a goal in the sixth minute. McCall-Donnelly (17-1-0) will face Filer (14-4-1) in the semifinals.

“Defensively, we did real well and kept the ball in their half most of the match,” McCall-Donnelly coach Greg Pittenger said.

Marsh Valley and Community School will meet in the other semifinal.
