Boise's Discovery Center of Idaho names new executive director

October 21, 2013

Kristine Barney.

Boise State University’s Kristine Barney is the new executive director at the Discovery Center of Idaho, Boise’s hands-on science center and museum.

Barney was chosen from a national pool of applicants. She will bring a strong background in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education.

Originally from Montana, Barney moved to Boise in 2002 to attend Boise State University. She earned a master’s degree in Biology and education. She worked as a plant scientist at J.R. Simplot Co., and since 2005 she has worked at BSU in a variety of roles. Her most recent position was as Director of Strategic Initiatives within the college of Arts and Sciences.

Barney fills the vacancy left by Janine Boire, who took over leadership of the Port Townsend Marine Science Center in July.
