Food Notes: Yard House, Kona Grill open in Meridian

This is the grand opening weekend of The Village at Meridian, a retail, restaurant and entertainment complex at N. Eagle Road and E. Fairview Avenue.

The ribbon cutting is at 10 a.m. Friday, followed by three days of kid's zone activities, face painting, food sampling and a concert in the Fountain Square at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18-19 and 4 p.m. Oct. 20. Find more information at

While you're out there shopping and possibly winning one of the $500 shopping sprees being given away, here's where you can eat:

• The Yard House, a California-based chain, is known for its cool ambiance, fusion American pub food, and lots and lots of beers on tap. Each location features a center-island bar and a fleet of taps ranging from classic lagers to obscure ales. It's open 11 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Mondays-Wednesdays, 11 a.m.-1 a.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Sundays. Phone: 288-0990.

• The Treasure Valley's second Chipotle is serving up its signature burritos, bowls, salads and more from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Phone: 288-0595.

• Which Wich Superior Sandwiches is open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays. Phone: 995-2887.

• Kona Grill and sushi bar opens today. The national chain serves island-inspired cuisine, eclectic sushi and craft cocktails from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 11 a.m. to midnight Fridays-Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays. Phone: 922-6511.

Open by the holidays at The Village

• The popular taco truck Calle 75 Street Tacos will open its first storefront in mid-November.

• RiceWorks Asian Street Food also will open a storefront at The Village.

• Twigs Bistro and Martini Bar, a chain out of Spokane, serves craft cocktails and Northwest fusion cuisine that ranges from osso bucco to prawn and salmon linguini. It's slated to open in late November.

• Menchie's Frozen Yogurt is a mix-it-yourself yogurt shop.

• Le Creme Frozen Yogurt features 20 nonfat flavors and more than 70 toppings.

• Backstage Bistro will be an art nouveau-style wine bar and restaurant located inside Village Cinema. It will feature an extensive wine-by-the-glass list and microbrews.

Coming in 2014 to The Village

• Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill is a restaurant inspired by its country western star namesake. You'll find big-screen TVs, live music, a guitar-shaped bar and "Whiskey Girls" behind the bar and waiting tables.

• The Counter is a custom gourmet burger restaurant. Create your own combination from a list of several hundred ingredients.


The fine-dining concept State & Lemp, 2870 W. State St., Boise, jumped the last hurdle by getting its liquor license approved by the Boise City Council. That was an extra step, because the restaurant is across the street from Lowell Elementary School.

Now, it will open with dinners Friday and Saturday. There are a few seats available for both nights. The elegant restaurant serves prix fixe menus prepared by Kris Komori, formerly of Portland's Park Kitchen, and co-owner Jay Henry.

The restaurant is open for one seating at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. Starting Nov. 1, it will add a second seating at 8:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and move the early seating to 6 p.m. on those nights.

Celebrate the two-year anniversary of Sofia's Greek Bistro, 6748 N. Glenwood St., with lunch and dinner specials and wine flights from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Music from Ken Harris and Carmel Crock starts at 6 p.m.

Owner and manager Lista Manolis comes from the family that owns Tom's Gyros in Pocatello and Idaho Falls. She opened Sofia's in Boise in 2011 to share her Greek heritage and her grandma Eleni's family recipes. Sofia's serves a mix of traditional Greek dishes, such as roasted lamb and lemon patatas, plus American/Greek-style burgers.
