Out-of-towners lead qualifying at Firebird

EAGLE — Shane Molinari from Battle Ground, Wash., and Doug Watts of Syracuse, Utah, claimed the No. 1 position in Top Gun qualifying at the NAPA Halloween Classic. Molinari drove his rear-engined dragster to a 6.84 elapsed time at 200.93 miles per hour to lead the Open Wheel category. In the Full-Bodied class, Watts held the top spot after posting a 7.08 at 194.21 mph on Thursday with his 2008 Pontiac GTO. The Classic continues Saturday and Sunday with gates opening at 9 am.
