HUNTING

Idaho waterfowl season opens Saturday, Oct. 12

Duck and goose hunts will continue through Jan. 24.

The daily bag limit is seven ducks with no more than two hen mallards, two redheads, three scaup, two pintails and two canvasbacks and four Canada geese.

Scaup season opens later. For details, see the 2013 Waterfowl Seasons and Rules brochure available at license vendors, Fish and Game offices and online at fishandgame.idaho.gov.

HIKING

Free program Oct. 16 on Boise area trails

Hiking guide author Scott Marchant will give a visual tour of hikes from his book, “The Hiker’s Guide Greater Boise” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at REI, 8300 W. Emerald St., Boise.

Marchant will discuss and show pictures from hikes around the Boise area including lesser known trails from the areas of Idaho City, Middle Fork of the Boise River, Leslie Gulch, Garden Valley and Smiths Ferry.
