Boise State tied for 2nd in Mtn. West men's basketball poll

Boise State and UNLV tied for the runner-up spot behind reigning Mountain West champion New Mexico in the league's preseason men's basketball media poll released Tuesday.

The Lobos (29-6 in 2012-13) earned 263 points and 23-of-24 first-place votes; UNLV received the other No. 1 nod. UNLV and BSU are two points ahead of San Diego State. Utah State, Colorado State, Wyoming, Fresno State, Nevada, Air Force and San Jose State round out the 11-team poll.

All-conference

BSU juniors Anthony Drmic and Derrick Marks were named to the preseason All-Mountain West team, along with Nevada's Deonte Burton, New Mexico's Alex Kirk and Kendall Williams, and UNLV’s Khem Birch.

Williams, a senior guard, is the MW preseason player of the year. San Diego State senior forward Josh Davis, who played at N.C. State and Tulane, was tabbed the top newcomer, and UNLV guard Kendall Smith is the preseason freshman of the year.
