Crash in Oregon kills Parma couple

Statesman staffOctober 7, 2013

Reconstructionists with Oregon State Police are investigating a crash that killed a Parma couple Sunday.

The crash occurred at about 9:14 a.m. on state Highway 20 between Vale and state Highway 201.

A 1973 Ford F600 farm truck driven by Aquilino Castilleja Martinez, 72, of Ontario had pulled onto Highway 20 near milepost 256 from the south side and was accelerating after getting into the westbound lane. That's when police say the truck was struck from behind by a 1999 Dodge Intrepid.

The Intrepid's driver, John Russell Hendricks, 56, and his wife, Angela Naomi Hendricks, 52, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their 13-year-old-daughter, Jianni Hendricks, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

There was no obvious evidence on the road that suggested brakes were used before impact, police said.
