Tractor driver dies in Boise after crash

October 7, 2013

— A Kimberly man died of his injuries Monday, five days after the tractor he was driving was rear-ended by a truck.

Idaho State Police said Salvador Centeno, 58, was airlifted to Saint Alphonsus in Boise after the wreck.

Centeno was headed east on U.S. Highway 30 near Hansen when the crash happened. Police said 55-year-old George Rietkerk of Wendell, who was driving behind Centeno in a truck pulling a livestock trailer, failed to yield and slammed into the back of the tractor.

Both men were taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley Regional Medical Center. Centeno was then transported to the hospital in Boise, where he died Monday.

The crash blocked the highway for about two and a half hours, and it remains under investigation.
