Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State swim team crushes Idaho in opener

BOISE — The Broncos beat Idaho 217.5 to 82.5 on Saturday at the Boise West YMCA. Freshmen Brittany Aoyama and Felicity Cann broke season-opener records in their debuts. Aoyama set records in the 50 freestyle (23.36) and 100 butterfly (54.95). Cann set a record in the 200 freestyle (1:50.25).

BSU VOLLEYBALL: New Mexico beat the Broncos 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22 at Bronco Gym. Sarah Horton led three Broncos (7-7, 2-3 Mountain West) in double-figure kills with 13.

BSU MEN’S TENNIS: Andy Bettles lost to Pepperdine’s Alex Sarkissian 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

BSU CROSS COUNTRY: Emma Bates was the top collegian in the women’s 5k at the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Springfield, Ore., placing second in 16 minutes, 35 seconds. In the men’s 8k, Allan Schroeder placed fifth (24:19). The men’s and women’s teams placed second and third, respectively. The Oregon men and Washington women won titles.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE WOMEN’S GOLF: Samantha Miller followed up a school-record round of 74 with a 78 in the final round to place second at the St. Martin’s Invitational in Olympia, Wash., two shots back of Hawaii Hilo’s Kristen Sawada (6-over 150). NNU took seventh with a team score of 676. British Columbia won the team title (624).

NNU VOLLEYBALL: The Crusaders outlasted Simon Fraser 22-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-18 in Burnaby, B.C.

NNU MEN’S SOCCER: The Crusaders shut out South Dakota School of Mines & Technology 3-0 in Nampa. Fredy Razo, Cedric Dinane and Dylan Coffee scored for NNU (3-3-3, 3-2-1 GNAC).

NNU WOMEN’S SOCCER: The Crusaders lost to St. Martin’s 4-0 in Lacey, Wash., falling to 1-7-1, 0-5-1 GNAC.

NNU CROSS COUNTRY: Natalie Evans placed seventh at the Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, Ore., covering the 5k course in 18 minutes, 10.39 seconds. The Crusader women finished eighth, while the men took 12th. NNU’s Michael Gordon took 29th (8k, 25:59.90). Alaska Anchorage won both team titles.

COLLEGE OF IDAHO MEN’S SOCCER: Yan Gioseffi had a goal and an assist as the Crusaders edged Evergreen State 2-1 in Caldwell. Jorge Brambila also scored for the C of I (2-8, 2-4 Cascade).

C OF I WOMEN’S SOCCER: Concordia beat the Coyotes 5-1 in Portland. Allie Boyd converted on a penalty kick for the C of I (3-6, 1-1 Cascade).

C OF I VOLLEYBALL: The Coyotes topped Warner Pacific 25-14, 25-18, 25-10 in Portland.

C OF I WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: The Coyotes placed fourth at the Rim Rock Classic in Lawrence, Kan., led by a fifth-place finish from Hillary Holt (21:05) in the 6k. Michigan won the team title.

C OF I SWIMMING: Mckayla Stevens set a school record in the 200 IM against Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash., winning in 2:34.62. The men lost 129-71, and the women fell 131-74. On Friday, the Coyotes lost to Pacific Lutheran 173-84 (men) and 197-64 (women) in Parkland, Wash.

IDAHO VOLLEYBALL: New Mexico State swept the Vandals 25-15, 25-18, 25-19 in Las Cruces, N.M. Meredith Coba had a double-double for Idaho (10-7, 3-2 WAC) with 15 assists and 10 digs.
