Rookie defenseman sent to Steelheads training camp

BOISE - Etienne Boutet is the third Texas Stars player assigned to Idaho this week, joining goaltenders Josh Robinson and Pat Nagle.

Boutet, 21, played five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he scored nine goals and tallied 37 points in 43 games for the Gatineau Olympiques last season.

Idaho opens its regular season Friday, Oct. 18, against Utah at CenturyLink Arena.


Eight former Idaho Steelheads are on NHL rosters as teams begin the regular season this week.

• Richard Clune, Nashville (2007-08)

• B.J. Crombeen, Tampa Bay (2007)

• Steve Oleksy, Washington (2009-10)

• Luke Gazdic, Edmonton (2009 and 2011)

• Jeremy Blain, Vancouver, injured reserve (last season)
