Our View, Pink Edition: Breast cancer brings stories of loss, love, revelation

October 2, 2013

We hope you agree with us that today's Opinions page is a lot more than pink. We have been blessed with some very compelling Reader's Views and Letters to the Editor from local people who have, in one way or another, been affected by breast cancer.

In fact, much of the paper has been devoted to the topic because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We asked readers to offer their accounts of coping with the disease, whether they were being treated or whether they were offering support to a cancer patient. We hope you see the same levels of compassion and courage in these submissions that we did.

We thank the authors, who range from a former Boise mayor to a former Meridian school superintendent to a man who is facing a battle against cancer and is inspired in part by the courage of his late mother.

Idaho Statesman is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
