Boise State women's basketball adds two players

BOISE - Two new Broncos joined the squad as it begins practice for a new season. Yaiza Rodriguez Ortego and Hailey Laird joined the Broncos, bringing the roster to 14 members for the upcoming season. Laird, a Parma native, is a transfer from Southwestern Oregon Community College. The 5-foot-5 guard is the only Idahoan on the Broncos's roster. Rodriguez Ortego recently represented Spain at the U19 FIBA World Championship in Lithuania, helping her nation to a group title and fourth-place finish overall. She also participated in Spain's title run at the U18 European Championship in Croatia. The Broncos began practice this week.

BSU WOMEN'S GOLF: Samantha Martin fired a 1-over-par 73 in the opening round of the Rose City Collegiate in Aurora, Ore., and is one of three Broncos in the top 25 after opening day. Martin is tied for fourth place, four strokes out of the lead. Genevieve Ling and Sammie Pless each carded rounds of 5-over 77 and are tied for 24th. The Broncos (310) are sixth, 17 shots back of leader Oregon State (293)

COLLEGE OF IDAHO MEN'S GOLF: Kyle DeLorey shot a 3-over 75 and sits in a three-way tie for third-place after Day 1 of the Border War in Medford, Ore. The senior had a two-stroke lead after the outward nine, carding a 35, but posted a 4-over 40 on the backside. As a team, the Yotes are 16 strokes off the pace, shooting an opening round 321 for fourth place. Oregon Tech leads at 305. The tournament concludes Tuesday.

IDAHO VOLLEYBALL: The Vandals swept Grand Canyon 26-24, 25-18, 25-23 in Moscow. Jessica Hastriter led Idaho (9-6, 2-1 WAC) with 15 kills and six digs.
