Idaho’s revenue weak spot: the individual income tax

The crystal ball turned out to be wrong about corporate and individual tax revenues in August.

Corporate revenues were higher in part thanks to lower refunds, while low withholdings “had the greatest drag” on individual income taxes, says the Idaho Division of Financial Management.

Why do withholdings matter? The Rockefeller Institute of Government calls them “a good indicator of the current strength of personal income tax revenue.”

Charts provide a peek at expected net collections for the rest of 2013 and 2014.
