Boise police late Friday made an arrest in connection with a hit and run that killed a 53-year-old cyclist early Thursday. Details on the arrest are pending.

Victor Haskell, 53, of Garden City died of blunt-force trauma, the Ada County coroner said. Boise police officers said he suffered a visible traumatic head injury.

Haskell was westbound on the north side of State Street near North 30th Street around 12:15 a.m. when the collision occurred, police said. The vehicle that hit him was also heading west.

Investigators believe Haskell may have entered the traffic lane to avoid construction on the sidewalk when he was struck, and may have been in a small hole created by the work for a while before being noticed by a passerby at about 8:30 a.m. Haskell was dead when officers arrived.

A vigil, to be attended by family, co-workers and others is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday near the spot where Haskell died.
