Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State women's tennis player wins two championships

BOISE — Morgan Basil won a singles title Sunday at the Jack Taylor Classic at Appleton Tennis Center, beating Idaho’s Galina Bykova 7-5, 6-2. Earlier in the day, Basil teamed up with partner Sandy Vo and defeated Precious Gbadamosi and Ashley Mackey of Montana 8-1 for a doubles title. Basil wrapped up the Broncos’ home tournament undefeated at 9-0. BSU went a combined 34-14 over the three day tournament, reaching four finals. In other title matches, Bobbi Oshiro lost to Washington State’s Maria Biryukova 7-6 (1), 6-3, and Anissa Bryant-Swift and Sammie Watson lost to Idaho’s Belen Barcenilla and Sophie Vickers 8-3.

BSU MEN’S TENNIS: Nathan Sereke lost to Texas A&M’s Jason Szabo 6-4, 6-4, and Thomas Tenreiro was defeated by Florida State’s Ben Lock 6-3, 7-6 (3) on the final day of the round robin-style Napa Valley Tennis Classic in St. Helena, Calif.

BSU SOCCER: The Broncos lost their first matchup against a ranked team this season, falling to No. 13 Baylor 2-0 in Waco, Texas. Goalkeeper Maddy McDevitt had five saves for BSU (5-3-2).
