One dead, one injured in Boise County pursuit

September 21, 2013

— Nicholas L. Garshelis, 33, was spotted driving a 2007 Ford F-350 pickup at a high rate of speed early Saturday when a Boise County deputy tried to pull him over on Idaho 55 south of Horseshoe Bend, Teresa Baker, spokeswoman for the Idaho State Police said.

Garshelis failed to stop and headed west on Pearl Road, which leads to a deserted mining town in Gem County. At that point, the deputy discontinued the pursuit.

A few minutes later, at about 1:28 a.m., Garshelis failed to make a curve, ran off the left shoulder of the road and overturned, Baker said. Garshelis died at the scene.

His passenger, Cayce M. Myers, 35, of Ada County was taken by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Myers was listed in critical condition Saturday.

The case is under investigation by the state police.
