Carjacking suspect identified, considered armed and dangerous

September 18, 2013

— Nampa police have identified a man suspected of carjacking a Norco van driver at knifepoint as Rodney Lee Seiber of Nampa.

He is believed to be armed and "extremely dangerous."

Seiber "will go to any length to avoid capture by police," a Thursday press release read.

Officers were searching for Seiber, a suspect in an earlier vehicle theft case, in the 2300 block of Caldwell Boulevard Wednesday night. When the suspect saw the officers, he ran across the street to the Norco lot and forced a company driver out of the van, police said.

The suspect led Caldwell and Nampa police officers on a chase before crashing into a car near Middleton Road and Fitzwilliam Street. The female driver of the other car suffered minor injuries in the wreck, Nampa Police Sgt. Tim Randall said.

Seiber didn’t seem to be hurt, he said.

After crashing the van, the he fled into a nearby cornfield. Police surrounded it and searched the field with thermal imaging equipment and police dogs, before calling off the search at 12:30 a.m.

Randall said the corn was too dense and it was too dark to continue. Officers swept the area several times, but came up with nothing.

“They could have been walking right by him and didn’t even know he was there,” he said. “Their visibility was really poor, and the dogs were having a hard time getting through the corn.”

Police watched the field overnight, hoping to spot the man trying to leave.

But Seiber, who Randall identified as a 36-year-old white male with blue eyes and brown hair, is still on the loose. He is 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, and was last seen wearing a dark blue hoodie, Randall said. He has "Jessica" tattooed on the left side of his neck, "Shyanne" tattooed on the right side, "Seiber" on the back of his neck, and a scorpion tattooed on the front.

Police are obtaining a warrant for Seiber, who will be charged with robbery, grand theft, eluding police and possession of a controlled substance.

Anyone who spots him is asked to call 911 immediately. Those with information about Seiber's whereabouts can contact Nampa Police at 465-2257.
