SUV catches fire on Curtis Road offramp

September 18, 2013

— The vehicle was engulfed in flames before firefighters were able to extinguish it. The blaze began in the engine compartment.

The driver, 18-year-old Savannah Blake, said she was driving to school when the SUV began to overheat about half a mile from the Curtis Road offramp.

“It was just steaming a lot, and then it burst into flame,” she said. The woman was able to pull over and get out of the vehicle unhurt.

Blake was in tears as she watched firefighters extinguish the flames. Today is her 18th birthday, she said.

A tow truck was called to pull the damaged vehicle from the scene. The road is not blocked to traffic.
