NFL Idaho connections: Hugh Thornton could start; Chris Carr back with Saints?

STAFF AND WIRE REPORTSSeptember 18, 2013

INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts have placed left guard Donald Thomas on injured reserve. Thomas tore a quad tendon in his right leg during the first quarter of Sunday’s 24-20 loss to Miami. Coach Chuck Pagano said Monday that Thomas would undergo season-ending surgery.

He is expected to be replaced by rookie Hugh Thornton, a third-round draft pick out of Illinois. Thornton, a former Idaho state wrestling champion, also played football for Mountain View and Boise before graduating from high school in Ohio.

The 6-foot-3, 334-pounder has played in both games this season. He could make his first start Sunday against San Francisco (2:25 p.m., CBS).

AGENT SAYS CARR BACK IN NEW ORLEANS: The New Orleans Times-Picayune first reported the signing, citing Carr’s agent via Twitter. Carr signed with the Saints in mid-June, but was released during the team’s final training camp cuts.

“Thanks for all the kind words. Thrilled to be back!!” Carr said via Twitter on Tuesday.

The signing wasn’t submitted to the league office by Tuesday night.
