INDIANAPOLIS The Colts have placed left guard Donald Thomas on injured reserve. Thomas tore a quad tendon in his right leg during the first quarter of Sundays 24-20 loss to Miami. Coach Chuck Pagano said Monday that Thomas would undergo season-ending surgery.
He is expected to be replaced by rookie Hugh Thornton, a third-round draft pick out of Illinois. Thornton, a former Idaho state wrestling champion, also played football for Mountain View and Boise before graduating from high school in Ohio.
The 6-foot-3, 334-pounder has played in both games this season. He could make his first start Sunday against San Francisco (2:25 p.m., CBS).
