A 27-year-old Nampa man was booked into the Canyon County Jail on Tuesday after an early morning assault.

Nampa police said they received a report at about 3:05 a.m. of a male who was severely battered in the 400 block of 21st Avenue South. It was later determined that the battery actually took place in the 500 block of 21st Avenue South.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with what police said appeared to be serious injuries. Fists and a blunt weapon were used in the beating, Nampa Sgt. Donald Peck said.

After the victim was transported, police said the suspect, Marshall Mendez, arrived at the scene of the assault.

Mendez was arrested and booked on charges of aggravated battery and destruction of evidence.
