Boise coffee shop robbed Monday morning

September 16, 2013

— A Dutch Bros. Coffee shop was robbed Monday morning, when a man snatched the tip jar from the window, owner Brian Wight said.

The shop, located in the parking lot of Fred Meyer on Franklin Street, was robbed just before 10 a.m., a dispatcher said.

Wight said the man ran through the drive through, grabbed the tip jar and took off. He did not appear to be armed.

Tip jar snatchings are not uncommon, Wight said. After the busy morning rush, the jar could have held about $20 or $30, he said, though he initially estimated it could have been more. He did not know the exact amount stolen.

“It unfortunately happens more than you think,” he said.

An employee called police, and wants to press charges if the robber is caught, Wight said. So far, a police search has not turned up the suspect.

Wight was not at the shop when the robbery happened, and said he did not have a description of the thief. A Boise Police spokeswoman did not respond to requests for information.
