COACH

Troy Calhoun, 46, is 48-32 in seven seasons, and has reached a bowl game every year (he's the only coach in school history to lead teams to six straight bowls). He played quarterback for the Falcons from 1985 to 1988 before serving as an assistant at his alma mater from 1989 to 1994.

Calhoun spent four seasons as an NFL assistant - 2003-05 with the Broncos and 2006 as offensive coordinator with the Texans. Calhoun was Mountain West coach of the year in 2007, and oversaw an offense in 2011 that scored the fourth most points in school history (454).

OFFENSE

Air Force mixes an up-tempo style with a run-heavy attack that features a fair amount of option plays. The Falcons have finished no worse than No. 6 in the nation in rushing in any season under Calhoun. They have rushed for 571 yards this season, and their 113 rushing attempts are third-most in the nation.

Junior Kale Pearson started the opener at quarterback against Colgate, but tore his ACL, and has been replaced by sophomore Jaleel Awini. Junior Jon Lee leads the team with 149 yards rushing (8.3 yards per carry). Fifteen players have at least one carry thus far.

DEFENSE

The Falcons yielded 377 points last season, the third-most in school history. Only three starters listed on this week's depth chart are returning starters from last season. All four linebackers in Air Force's 3-4 scheme are first-year starters, though inside linebacker Joey Nichol has 20 tackles in two games. The aptly-named Steffon Batts has knocked down three passes at cornerback.

The Falcons have given up 877 yards this season, and are 83rd nationally in both passing and rushing defense.

The secondary is a strength, with two veterans in Batts and junior safetyChristian Spears (91 tackles last year), along with junior safety Jamal Byrd, who has the team's lone interception.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Junior Will Conant is 3-for-3 on field goals in his first season as kicker. Eight of kickoff specialist Briceton Cannada's 10 kickoffs have gone for touchbacks, though all have been at high altitude.

DID YOU KNOW?

Beside their three straight losing seasons from 2004-06, the Falcons have posted just three other losing seasons since 1982, including a 6-7 campaign in 2012.
