Meat that may contain small pieces of plastic could be in Treasure Valley schools

Schools are checking for ground beef that may contain the material.

A California meat company has issued a product retrieval ground beef that may contain small pieces of plastic. The meat could have been shipped to several Treasure Valley school districts.

Area school district that may have received the ground beef include Caldwell, Emmett, Garden Valley, Homedale, Horseshoe Bend, Middleton, Vallivue, Marsing, Melba, Payette, Victory Charter School and Wilder.

Idaho Department of Education spokesman characterized a product being retrieved as posing a lower food safety risk than a recalled product.

Central Valley Meat Co. issued the retrieval for meat with a production date of 3/30/2013.

It was delivered between between July 2 and September 6.

The lot number is 6063A3089A.

Some of the meat may have already been served. No schools have reported concerns and there are no reports of anyone becoming sick, the Idaho Department of Education said.

If any of the product is found, schools are to segregate it from other foods and notify the Idaho Department of Education.
