Water drop on fire keeps Highway 55 open

August 24, 2013

— The use of a helicopter to dump water onto a fire late Friday north of Banks allowed Idaho Transportation Department officials to keep Idaho Highway 55 open.

The helicopter crew was able to dip water from a site away from the Payette River to help put out the fire, according to a joint release from the Boise National Forest, the Boise District BLM and the Idaho Department of Lands.

Highway 55 is the main route between Boise and Emmett to Cascade, Donnelly and McCall.
