Cow on highway causes motorcycle crash

August 24, 2013

A 24-year-old Nevada man was injured early Saturday morning after crashing his motorcycle while trying to avoid a cow in the road on Idaho Highway 51 near the Nevada border.

Troy Thomas was headed south on the highway within the Duck Valley Indian Reservation when he encountered the cow at 3:50 a.m, according to the Idaho State Police. He swerved to avoid the animal and lost control of his motorcycle, troopers said.

Thomas, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. He was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The accident is still under investigation.
