Walmart opened a new store Wednesday at 795 W. Overland Road in Meridian.

The store employs about 200 people. It is open 24 hours a day, every day of the week.

Walmart will have a welcoming event at the store Saturday from noon to 3 p.m., with face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples.

"Walmart has been a valued community partner that has supported a number of city programs," Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd said in a press release. "Their newest location in our community brings a needed and much-requested service to the south side of our city. It will be the first grocery store in the area."

The 160,000-square-foot store carries products from Southern Idaho companies Falls Brand, Berry Ranch and Treasure Valley Salsa.
