Community pool vandals could face felony charges

July 31, 2013

— An overnight break-in at the Fairmont Pool is under investigation by Boise police.

Vandals smashed a window to get into the pool area, then rifled through offices and sprayed two fire extinguishers into the pool, police said. Employees discovered the damage early Wednesday morning.

The spray from the fire extinguishers damaged pumps and filters in the pool, police said. Employees estimate that repair costs could exceed $1,000.

The pool is closed Wednesday, and employees do not know when it will be reopened to the public. Morning swim lessons have been rescheduled to Aug. 2, and other classes have been canceled.

Police said that those responsible for the damage could be charged with burglary and vandalism when caught.
