Varsity Extra roundup: Legion tournament begins Wednesday at Rocky Mountain

MERIDIAN — The Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen and Boise Seminoles open play at the AA American Legion state baseball tournament at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rocky Mountain High.

Games run throughout the weekend, including the championship at noon Sunday.

The winner advances to the Northwest Regional Tournament on Aug. 8-12 at Swede Johnson Stadium in Eugene, Ore.

Idaho Falls is the defending state champion, while the Seminoles won last week’s district tournament.

Midfielder Qarli Stone (Eagle High) was named to the 2013 US Youth Soccer National Championships Best 11 Under-15 Girls team.

Stone scored three goals at nationals, where the Boise Nationals Italia became the first Idaho team to play in the event.
