Pettitt Jr. leads, Knox second at Boise Open

Tennessee golfer Philip Pettitt Jr. shot an 8-under 63 to take the third-round lead at Hillcrest Country Club on Saturday afternoon. Pettitt Jr. is at 18-under one shot ahead of second-round leader Russell Knox.

Pettitt's 54-hole score equaled the best three-round score in the 24-year history of the tournament.

Knox, who set the course record with a 59 on Friday, moved into second place late in his round and starts Sunday's final round at -17.

Six golfers are tied for third at -16, including Michael Connell, who shot the best round Saturday. Connell shot a 10-under par 61.

Twenty-eight golfers are within six shots of Pettitt's lead.

Boise State product Troy Merritt shot an 8-under 63 to finish at 14-under, four shots off Pettitt Jr.'s pace.

The final round begins at approximately 7:15 Sunday morning. Pettitt and Knox tee off at 1:10 p.m. The winner's paycheck of $139,500 will be awarded at about 5 p.m. on the 18th green.
