Redfish campgrounds, lodge reopen

July 26, 2013

Bouncing back: Redfish Lake Lodge and area campsites opened Thursday at noon, after being closed by a wildfire south of Stanley since Monday. The fire burned about 230 acres; it was 95 percent contained Thursday.

In prime tourist season, back in business “Happy Hour at Redfish Lake Lodge is back ON!” the Lodge posted on its Facebook page. “See you all tonight for some post-evacuation specials!”

Kicked out: Lodge guests, Redfish Lake campers and residents of nearby Buckhorn subdivision had to leave as a precaution. No structures burned.

Wrapping up: About 275 firefighters and support crews remained Thursday to extinguish the blaze. Officials said it is safe to return to campgrounds, but Buckhorn, which is mostly summer homes, remains evacuated. Dry trees in the area and gusty winds could still cause the fire to spread, Sawtooth National Forest Ranger Barbara Garcia said.

Drive carefully: Idaho 75 and Redfish Lake Road are open, but Forest Road 210 is closed. Fire officials urge travelers to keep fire crews safe by driving slowly and avoiding going in and out of the area.
