Fish Rap: Have you done your summer trips yet?

July 25, 2013

July is winding down, and that means kids will be heading back to school in about a month. Seems like a good time to take an inventory of what you’ve accomplished so far.

Have you had that perfect day fishing? You know, where you feel like you’re casting with the hand of God?

Hope you have, and better yet, I hope you found several places that made you feel that way.

If you haven’t, what are you waiting for?

You may be thinking “Gee, I haven’t been to (fill in the blank) yet.” I know how you feel. Every summer, I swear I am going to hit fishing spot X and end up at Y and Z. Although I usually have a great time, the summer slips away and I say, “How did another summer slip away without going there?”

Lake Cascade has been my big miss for several years now, which is ironic considering how often I drive past it toward other places.

But this ain’t about me, it’s about you.

Pick your spot and go there. There are a few places you should consider. Lake Lowell has been consistently producing large bass. Indian Creek Reservoir has been producing lots of small bass and is a great place to take kids and rookies.

Ditto for the Snake River below Swan Falls Dam. Lots of bass to keep things interesting. One friend reported landing 65 in five hours, and I believe him.

I’ve also been getting good trout reports out of Warm Lake east of Cascade. Mountain lakes and streams are all fishing well now.

Summer is busy, but the clock is ticking, and the fish are waiting.
