Hearing postponed in accidental shooting case

July 17, 2013

— Court proceedings for a Boise man accused of fatally shooting a relative were delayed Wednesday, as attorneys waited on a firearm analysis.

Derick Lee Sedivy, 23, was charged with involuntary manslaughter after police said he shot Austin Tyler Blankenburg, 20, in the head the night of May 10. The shooting appeared to be an accident, police said.

Blankenburg, of Kuna, died of his injuries. Police said that alcohol may have been a factor in the shooting.

Sedivy pleaded not guilty May 15. He is currently free on $50,000 bond.

If convicted of involuntary manslaughter, Sedivy could face up to 10 years in prison.

A new hearing is scheduled for Aug. 16 at 8:30 a.m.
