3 to 10 p.m. July 13, 9th and Main streets, Downtown Boise. (Downtown streets will be blocked off from 11 a.m. to midnight.) Opening ceremony: 6:50 p.m.; Awards ceremony: 10 p.m. BoiseTwilightCriterium.com.

The Boise Twilight Criterium is one of the coolest cycling events in a city of cool cycling events.

Even if you're not hugely into the scene, watching these athletes whiz around Downtown street corners at blistering speeds is awe-inspiring.

Plus, it's fun to see the cyclists hanging around town during the week, riding the Boise Greenbelt and grabbing breakfast at Big City Coffee.

The course takes the riders in a city-street circle on 9th and 10th streets and Grove and Bannock streets.

Kick things off with the Kids' Ride with Kristin Armstrong at 2:30 p.m. Races start at 3 p.m., with the women pros taking off at 7 p.m. and the men at 8:15 p.m.
