Felony charges for man after fight in Boise

July 11, 2013

Officers said a man arrested Wednesday evening on an aggravated battery charge had choked a victim during a fight.

A witness who called police told dispatchers that he had seen a man on top of another person, choking him. The victim did not appear conscious and was not defending himself, the caller said. The witness was driving by when he saw the attack.

Police responding to the call found Shawn Christopher Walstad, 44, and the male victim near 10th and Grove streets.

The injured man was transported to a local hospital. Walstad, who police said appeared “very intoxicated,” was arrested.

He was booked into the Ada County Jail Wednesday evening. If convicted of felony aggravated battery, Walstad could face up to 15 years in prison.
