Caldwell home sustains significant damage in 3-alarm fire

A single-family home in Caldwell was badly damaged Wednesday in a three-alarm blaze on Wednesday.

Terry Gammel, the on-duty fire investigator for the Caldwell Fire Department said the call came in at 5:45 p.m. for a fire at a single-family home at 7th Avenue and Chicago Street.

After the first unit saw heavy smoke and fire from the garage area, a second alarm was called. Because of the sweltering temperatures outside, Gammel said a third alarm was called.

It was unclear if anyone was home at the time, but it didn't appear as if there were any injuries. According to Gammel, a sweep of the home confirmed there were no bodies inside.

The living area sustained significant damage, Gammel said.

More than 50 firefighters responded from Caldwell, Meridian, Parma, Middleton, Star and Nampa.

The cause remained under investigation late Wednesday.
