School bus, minivan collide in Meridian

July 10, 2013

— The school bus and a minivan collided on Linder Road and McMillan Road at about 7:40 a.m. Wednesday.

The bus was filled with children at the time of the crash, dispatchers said.

Meridian Police Lt. Jamie Leslie said that the driver of the van, a woman in her 60s, was taken to St. Luke’s with non-life threatening injuries. She was the only person in the vehicle.

The children and bus driver were not injured, he said.

Dispatchers previously described the collision as a four-car crash, but Leslie said the van and the bus were the only vehicles involved.

The bus was headed northbound on Linder Road, and the van was driving south on Linder and turning east onto McMillan when the vehicles collided in the intersection.

Leslie said it appeared as though the van turned into the path of the school bus and was struck on the right side .

"We're trying to investigate who had the right-of-way, what the light colors were," he said. “It looked like [the van] turned right in front of the bus."

No citations have been issued.
