One injured in road rage wreck on Interstate 84

June 29, 2013

BOISE — Two vehicles involved in a road rage incident crashed Saturday afternoon on Interstate 84 near the Flying Wye.

The driver of one of the cars, Ethan W. Cornell, 23, of Boise was taken by ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. At 5:30 p.m., Cornell was still being assessed by hospital personnel and his condition had not been established, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The other driver, Sean R. Johnson, 28, also from Boise, was apparently not injured, according to an ISP report.

Witnesses told troopers that three cars were involved in the road rage. A red 1991 Honda Civic driven by Cornell collided with a white 1996 Acura Integra at about 2:15 p.m. and blocked the eastbound lanes of the freeway at the beginning of the Flying Wye at milepost 49. Eastbound traffic was backed up several miles and remained blocked for about an hour.

Onlookers said the driver of a white Mazda SUV, the other person involved in the road rage, initially stopped at the scene of the wreck and taunted the other drivers before getting back into his vehicle and speeding off.

Troopers are seeking the public’s help in identifying the SUV and its driver. Anyone with information is asked to call the ISP’s District 3 patrol office in Meridian at 846-7520.
