The Portland Cello Project

  • Portland Cello Project

8 p.m. June 22, Visual Arts Collective, 3638 Osage St., Garden City. $12 at BrownPaperTickets.com. $15 at the door.

When did cello get to be so cool? Ask the members of the Portland Cello Project, and they will tell you "always."

But this eclectic group has helped grow the instrument's popularity by building bridges across musical genres and audiences.

Since forming in 2007, the group has played its repertory that includes Bach, Kanye West and Pantera in venues such as bars and sporting arenas.

Even if you don't love classical, you'll dig this.
