There are any number of reasons that Goodwood Barbecue Co. has become so successful since the first restaurant opened in Boise in 1999. There's the brisket and pulled pork that cooks overnight for a melt-in-your-mouth experience. There's the prime rib, steaks and chicken - all fine choices.
And then there are the beef ribs. Big, meaty beef ribs.
"As far as I know, those are pretty unique to us," said co-founder Mike Mantooth. "People come to us for that."
Goodwood learned that lesson some time ago when the beef ribs disappeared from the menu for three months.
"Guests were furious," Mantooth said.
So he and his staff make sure to keep the beef ribs coming. And cole slaw. And chicken wings. And burgers.
And if you want, Goodwood will come to you. Catering has become a big part of the business for the restaurant, which has five locations - two in the Treasure Valley and three in Utah. But if you're heading to the restaurant, try the beef ribs. And on your way out the door, purchase a bottle of the barbecue sauce. That way, you can bring a taste of Goodwood into your own house.
