Woe unto him who goeth to Goldy's and ordereth nothing but a plain stack of pancakes.

This perennial winner of the breakfast category specializes in less-obvious morning fare. Red flannel hash with beets, bacon and potatoes. Smoked salmon hash with red potatoes, onions and capers, topped with hollandaise. Andalusian eggs, poached over marinara and baked with ham, chorizo, asparagus and peppers. Sourdough French toast stuffed with bananas, butter, walnuts, cinnamon and brown sugar. If you're in the mood for hash browns, take your pick of regular or sweet potato.

The abbreviated lunch menu is mostly comfort food - ham melt, fish and chips, bacon burger, that kind of thing. But a few surprises lurk, like the California wrap, which pairs turkey, roasted red peppers, avocado and salad with herbed cream cheese and pesto mayo.
