June 8, 2013

GARDEN CITY — A man jaywalking across Veterans Memorial Parkway late Friday was struck and killed by a motorist.

The motorist driving a Ford pickup was headed south at 10:16 p.m. when the man ran into the vehicle's path, according to Garden City police. The man, who had not been publicly identified by Saturday afternoon pending notification of next of kin, died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup and several witnesses stopped to give aid, but the pedestrian was already dead, police said.

Veterans Memorial Parkway and Adams Street between 41st and 42nd streets were closed for about three hours as investigators worked the accident scene.

The Ada County Coroner's Office said they will likely release the man's name Monday afternoon.
