Election 2013: Voters given wrong ballots in Middleton race

May 22, 2013

The race for a position on the Middleton School Board ended in a tie yesterday, with two candidates each receiving 101 votes.

Marc D. Gunning and Steve Cluff both garnered 46 percent of the total votes for the Trustee Zone 2 position, with Brian Fendle claiming 8 percent.

Some voters in the Middleton School District were mistakenly assigned to the wrong school zone, election officials said.

At least five voters were assigned to the wrong trustee zone and given the wrong ballot, officials found. Poll workers realized the error when two voters brought it to their attention.

Canyon County Elections and the Idaho Secretary of State’s Office are investigating to determine what steps to take next.
