State baseball roundup: Rocky Mountain wins 5A consolation

The defending champion Grizzlies (25-5) outscored their opponents 20-4 at state but picked up the consolation title because of a first-round loss to Highland. Carson Huck was 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the 10-1 defeat of Eagle (18-10) on Saturday.

3A: FRUITLAND FALLS TO SNAKE RIVER

Fruitland came into the tournament as the two-time defending champion, then outscored its first two opponents 26-1.

Old nemesis Snake River wasn't impressed.

Snake River defeated Fruitland 8-4 in the championship game Saturday at Fruitland High.

Fruitland and Snake River met in two championship games during the 2011-12 school year - Snake River won in football and Fruitland won in basketball.

Earlier this season in basketball, Snake River beat Fruitland in the semifinals, en route to a state championship in Nampa.

2A: GRANGEVILLE CLAIMS TITLE

Grangeville beat Nampa Christian 9-8 on Saturday at Rodeo Park in Nampa. In the third-place game, New Plymouth beat St. Maries 10-2.

1A: POTLATCH BLANKS HORSESHOE BEND

Potlatch beat Horseshoe Bend 10-0 in five innings in the 1A championship game Saturday at Wolfe Field in Caldwell. Horseshoe Bend beat Troy earlier in the day to advance to the championship game.
